It enables the reader, for example, to trace the movements of a particular squadron to different airfields around the UK; to look up which airfields contributed aircraft for particular operations, plus details of the operations themselves; to discover details of Luftwaffe attacks on UK airfields and other targets; to read about significant personalities, and to look up architectural details. Furthermore, this volume supplies up-dated information on the earlier volumes, such as squadron movements and the acquisition of new aircraft, and it even gives the history of those few airfields which were inadvertently omitted previously. Together with many new photographs, for which there was not room in previous volumes, this is far more than a mere index.
