Sergeant Bill Close (Military Cross and bar) survived Calais 1940, Greece 1941, Sidi-Rezegh, Gazal and Alamein. In the same squadron, in many battles were Sergeants Buck Kite (the only British soldier to win three Military Medals in WWII) and Geordie Reay, who won the DCM at Alamein
